April started off with a tasty delivery from Organics to You. I love getting produce from them– the best part is seeing the kids immediately be all over the fruit. Munchkie started munching on a tomato and a radish straight out of the bin, and Zoe had a pear, an apple, and a grapefruit for snack after school.

I am especially excited about the Ezekiel 4:9 pasta and the veggie pizzas, both made from sprouted grains. Although I am still in the market for a grain mill so I can start making my own flour, and eventually even make my own pasta and bread, I really like the Ezekiel products. Sprouted grains eliminate the worry about rancid flour or lack of proper soaking. Plus, a really nice bonus is that the combination of ingredients in these products combine to form a complete protein.
Here is what the Food for Life website says, about Ezekiel 4:9 Organic Sprouted Whole Grain Products:
Inspired by the Holy Scripture verse Ezekiel 4:9., “Take also unto thee Wheat, and Barley, and beans, and lentils, and millet, and Spelt, and put them in one vessel, and make bread of it…”
We discovered when these six grains and legumes are sprouted and combined, an amazing thing happens. A complete protein is created that closely parallels the protein found in milk and eggs. In fact, the protein quality is so high, that it is 84.3% as efficient as the highest recognized source of protein, containing all 9 essential amino acids. There are 18 amino acids present in this unique bread – from all vegetable sources – naturally balanced in nature.
I am also excited about the raw colostrum from Organic Pastures! Although raw milk is not available commercially in Oregon, apparently colostrum is seen as a health supplement and is legal. This is great news! Although I have never had it before, a testimonial I read claimed that it tastes just like milk, which immediately convinced me to buy it for Zoe. She always asks me for chocolate milk, so this should be a nice treat for her, and the benefits of colostrum should really help with her asthma and allergies, I think (for an interesting study click here: raw-milk-allergy.pdf). Cow colostrum, just like human colostrum is a super food, alive with probiotic bacteria, immunoglobulins, and natural enzymes. I bought 2 gallons (since Azure is taking their spring vacation and the next time we can order won’t be till the end of the month), so I really hope she likes it!
